Experience kabuki in a wooden theater built in 1891

Local people built Tokiwa-za by donating rice, and local people still perform kabuki on its stage. Theater tours and hands-on kabuki experiences for travelers are being planned; dates and prices will be announced.

  • JR Chūō Line, Nagoya → Nakatsugawa: about 50 min by Limited Express Shinano, about 1 h 15 min by rapid train
  • Kitaena Kōtsū bus, Nakatsugawa Station → Takayama stop: about 19 min, ¥590
  • Takayama stop → Tokiwa-za: about 1.6 km on foot (15–20 min)
  • Last bus from Takayama: 19:16 on weekdays, 18:49 on the "holiday" (kyūjitsu) timetable; check which days that timetable covers, and the latest times
